The Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry of Bordeaux (UMR5026) is a Joint Research Unit of the CNRS, of the University of Bordeaux and Bordeaux INP. The ICMCB has strong expertise in solid state chemistry, materials science and chemical processing. It uses this know-how for the development of new materials and new concepts for materials synthesis, shaping and recycling, covering the application fields energy, environment, health, electronics and photonics. Recently, the ICMCB has also become active in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Based on our scientific knowledge in Solid State Chemistry, in Materials Science and in Molecular Science as well as on our technical facilities of synthesis, shaping and characterization of materials, our activities focus on four major sectors relating to:

  • Energy
  • Functional materials
  • Nanomaterials
  • Environment and sustainable development

The latter sector, environment and sustainable development, is a major and growing part of our activities. Among the actions of ICMCB in this domain, we may highlight confinement of CO2 and CO2 capture, waste management, or hydrothermal oxidation of waste, related to the LTC Green Concrete research areas.
