The MPC – Materials Physics Centre – is a non-profit organization founded by Ikerbasque, the Provincial Council of Guipuzcoa and the International Physics Center of Donostia -DIPC. The MPC is a Centre for Basic Research and Excellence of the Basque Science Network, Technology and Innovation. The goal of the MPC is to become an intellectual forum and a milestone for excellence in materials science. MPC promotes and carries out fundamental and targeted research activities, contributing decisively to the generation of knowledge based on excellence in research, training postgraduate and the dissemination of popular science.

The scientific activity at the Materials Physics Center – MPC focuses mainly on the basic and basic science oriented. The “Polymers and Soft Matter Group”, a MPC group that leads the activity related to the LTC Green Concrete, has developed a solid methodology to investigate the structure and the dynamics of different materials under different conditions (e.g. in confinement or aqueous environments) and time scales. This methodology is based on the combination of different techniques of relaxation as well as structural properties.

Within the frame of the LTC the experimental works revolve around the dynamics of water in the nanoconfined structure of cementitious materials and the use of nano-particles to improve the performance of concrete in marine environments.
